In 2019, 775 confirmed echinococcosis cases were reported in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA). Of these, 419 cases (54%) were reported as Echinococcus granulosus, 154 (20%) as Echinococcus multilocularis, and 205 (26%) as unknown species.

The EU/EEA notification rate of echinococcosis was 0.17 cases per 100 000 population, which was the lowest notification rate in the last 5 years. The highest notification rate in males was reported among those aged 25–44 years and ≥65 years, and in females among those aged 45-64 years.
