European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) 2021
European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) is a European health initiative coordinated by ECDC. It provides a platform and support for national campaigns on the prudent use of antibiotics in the EU/EEA and take place each year across Europe on 18 November. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EAAD will this year be marked with a digital event and campaign.
Digital campaign
This year's digital EAAD campaign will include enhanced collaborations with social media influencers in each EU/EEA country – the influencers will produce content around prudent use of antibiotics and EAAD overall. The digital campaign also includes video statements from high-level speakers from the EU and experts from EU/EEA countries, and an interactive tool on the EAAD website featuring national resources on AMR, our partners, the influencers and ECDC’s resources.
Digital event
On 18 November, 10:00 – 11:30 CET, ECDC will host a digital EAAD event with the theme; “in times of COVID-19, don’t forget about antimicrobial resistance. Stay united to preserve antimicrobials”. It will feature high-level keynote addresses as well as a scientific panel addressing the theme. The event is free of cost, open to everyone and organised within the frame of ECDC’s ESCAIDE conference. Registration is now open on the ESCAIDE website.

Global Twitter storm
Once again, organisations from around the globe will tweet about #AntibioticResistance and #WAAW on 18 November at 17:00 CET to raise awareness of the issue. If you wish to participate, make sure to post this through your Twitter account at that time or during the day, together with hashtags that are relevant for you.
Twitter Space on AMR
Experts from the European Commission Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, the European Medicines Agency, the European Food Safety Authority and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control will take part in a Twitter Space and answer to questions on antibiotic resistance from a One Health approach. This will take place on Friday 19 November at 10:00 CET. Keep an eye on our Twitter handle @EAAD_EU and join the discussion!
