70 056 cases of gonorrhoea were reported by 28 EU/EEA Member States for 2015. The overall notification rate was 19 cases per 100 000 population. Rates of reported gonorrhoea infection vary considerably across Europe, with higher rates reported innorthern Europe. For the first time, men who have sex with men (MSM) accounted for more than half of the reported cases (51%) in 2015. The number of reported cases increased by 14% compared with 2014. Cases increased among MSM, but fewer cases were reported among heterosexual men and women.
