Summary of the latest data on antibiotic consumption in EU: 2017
Recent national antibiotic consumption data for the community and the hospital sector are publicly available from the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network (ESAC-Net). At EU and national level these data are provided for healthcare professionals to identify areas that can be addressed by national antimicrobial stewardship programmes or to help evaluate the effectiveness of awareness campaigns on the prudent use of antibiotics.

Erratum: on 29 November 2017, changes were made to Tables 1, 2 and Figure 3 and in the fifth paragraph on page 2 the number of countries reporting data has been reduced from 20 to 19 (66%) following the removal of data from Belgium for the 2015 and 2016 packages.
