EU level surveillance of COVID-19
EU surveillance
For EU level surveillance, EU/EEA Member States report the number of laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 every 24 hours through the Early Warning and Response System (EWRS).
Additional enhanced surveillance has been established through The European Surveillance System - TESSy.
ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe – in collaboration with their surveillance networks in the Member States – coordinate the reporting of:
- Enhanced case-based data on probable and confirmed COVID-19 cases (recordtype: NCOV)
- Aggregated data on the number of cases, deaths, hospital and ICU admissions and number of variant viruses detected; and number of tests performed (recordtypes: NCOVAGGR and NCOVTEST)
Data should be reported to TESSy weekly (every Tuesday by 23:59) for all recordtypes.
The entries (coded values and descriptions) for reporting can be found in the reporting protocol and TESSy metadataset.
Results from these surveillance systems are published in Rapid Risk Assessments, weekly surveillance and country overview reports, dashboard and other publications.
