Antimicrobial consumption dashboard (ESAC-Net)

Tools for public health

This dashboard shows European Union/European Economic Area (EEA) reference data from the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network (ESAC-Net).

Data displayed are reported through The European Surveillance System (TESSy) in accordance with the ESAC-Net reporting protocol. The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification system is used for the allocation of antimicrobials in groups. The latest ATC/DDD (Defined Daily Dose) index is applied to consumption data in all years. Please note that in 2019 major alterations were made to DDDs for some antibiotics. As a result, the data displayed in the interactive database differ from the data in historical annual epidemiological reports.

The interactive AMC dashboard includes data and trends for the EU/EEA and individual countries as reported for both the community and hospital sectors. Data are presented up to the fourth level of ATC classification. Antibiotic consumption is expressed as the number of DDDs per 1 000 inhabitants per day as reported in ESAC-Net Annual Epidemiological Reports and tonnes per year as reported in joint inter-agency antimicrobial consumption and resistance analysis reports (JIACRA). Enhanced antimicrobial consumption surveillance tools are included to visualise various quality indicators for antibiotic consumption.
